The Ei176 is an alarm for the Hearing Impaired that runs on 230V AC mains power, and has a built in long-life sealed Lead-acid rechargeable battery. It comes complete with a low voltage Optical Smoke Alarm. When adequate smoke enters the alarm, it will trigger causing the strobe and vibrating pillow pad to activate The strobe unit has integrated cable channels and screw slots for easy wall mounting The unit has an additional jack plug for adding an extra vibrating pillow pad or strobe. It also has a jack plug to receive a signal from compatible alarm clocks . Operation  When the smoke alarm activates, the strobe unit and the vibrating pillow pad will activate  The green light will illuminate on the strobe unit to show power is present  The red light will flash and the green light on the strobe unit will not show when it is on battery power only  The red light on the smoke alarm will flash every 40 seconds to show it has performed and automatic self test  Pressing the Test button on the side of the strobe unit will activate the strobe and vibrating pillow pad  Pressing the Test button on the smoke alarm will activate the alarm, strobe and vibrating pad .

echnical Specification 1. Smoke Alarm Specification 1.1 The Smoke Alarm carries the BSI Kitemark to indicate type testing to BS EN 14604:2005. It will meet the requirements of Grade F as defined in BS5839 Pt.6:2004. It carries the CE mark to indicate conformance to Low Voltage and Electromagnetic Compatibility Directives. 1.2 It has an Optical (photoelectric) sensor with large volume chamber and large high sensitivity photodiode. Insect resistant fine mesh screen with holes less than 0.030 inches. 1.3 It is powered from the strobe unit and in the event of a mains failure the strobe unit will power the system for up to 7 days. 1.4 Built-in sounder giving a minimum sound output of 85dB (A) at 3m. The wire contacts are soldered directly on to the piezo disc for additional security. 1.5 Manual integral Test button to test circuitry, sensor and horn, and also activate the strobe unit and vibrating pillow pad. 1.6 Automatic Self-Test: Smoke chamber is tested every 40 seconds and unit bleeps (without simultaneous red LED flash) if a fault is detected. 1.7 Automatic reset facility so that when smoke clears from the alarm sensor the unit will reset automatically. 1.8 Up to 11 other alarms (Ei100C, Ei105C and Ei103C) can be interconnected with this system. 2. Strobe Unit Specification 2.1 The strobe unit is 230V AC Mains powered with built-in Rechargeable Lead-Acid battery capable of lasting up to 7 days in standby mode and has a 5 year lifespan. 2.2 Mains transformer, hardwired to the strobe unit by 4m of low voltage cable, and 2m of mains cable to the 13A plug. 2.3 Supplied with 10m of low voltage cable to link between the strobe unit and the smoke alarm. 2.4 Tamperproof battery compartment. 2.5 Green power indicator light - on constantly to confirm integrity of mains power supply. 2.6 When on battery only power, the red indicator light will flash. 2.7 Fault indicator - the strobe will flash if a fault is detected (e.g. A break in the cable linking to the alarm or a break in the cable to the vibrating pillow pad). 2.8 Manual Test button checks the strobe and vibrating pillow pad. 2.9 The strobe uses an intense Xenon tube - flashes once per second (1Hz). 2.10 The vibrating pillow pad has a locking socket (JST type VHR-2N) with 5m of cable. Output is pulsed in alarm state. The cable is monitored - if the pad is not connected or damaged the strobe will flash. 2.11 The strobe unit has an additional socket for adding an Ei174 Additional Vibrating Pillow Pad or Ei178 Additional Strobe (not supplied). 2.12 Clock input socket (requires a 5 to 24V input - electrically isolated from the mains supply). A compatible alarm clock can be connected to this input socket with a 3.5mm mono jack plug. When the alarm clock triggers, the vibration pad activates, but the internal strobe or auxiliary output are not activated (to indicate to the person that it is an alarm clock activation and not a fire activation). 2.13 Supplied with fixing screws: suitable for wall mounting. 3. Operating temperature range: 4°C to 40°C. 0% to 90% relative humidity. 4. Dimensions: Control Panel - 105mm x 165mm x 50mm, Transformer - 60 x 70 x 50mm, Alarm - 140 x 120 x 45mm.
