USB Power, the end of the Ugly Plug Adapter or Chunky Power Supply

(32 results)

Ten years ago you had to make sure you had the right cable for your phone, camera, tablet or smartphone. Today, you can charge your phone almost anywhere, the industries love of custom power supplies has gone and thats all thanks to a standardized connector the USB port.

Have you ever noticed that some chargers seem more powerful than others? Perhaps sometimes your device charges at different speeds using different charging points? Well there is a good reason for this. Did you know there are actually four different USB specifications; USB 1.0, 2.0, 3.0, and 3.1 and in addition to this the new USB-C connector.

USB 3.0 is now the most current and common its capable of delivering upto 0.9Amps. USB 1.0 and 2.0 are actually only capable of delivering up to 0.5Amps,.... but thats just the specification, some chargers go over and above, for example Apple’s iPad charger provides 2.1A at 5V; Amazon’s Kindle Fire charger outputs 1.8; and car chargers can output anything from 1A to 2.1A.

MK Electrics integrated USB charging points on their range of wiring accessories provides 2Amps which is pretty much the same as the Apple Ipad charger, its also USB 2.0 and 3.0 compatible. Differing manufacturers devices can be charged simultaneously via the two USB Outlets, its also provides protection against an overload or short circuit on either USB outlet so there is no danger of blowing up your smartphone.
