BG SPD Kit Type 2 CUA32

The BG CUA32 is a Type 2 single module surge protection device supplied complete with the wiring kit required to fit directly into any BG consumer unit or enclosure. Mounts onto the DIN rail without the need for a separate backup MCB — the CUSPDT21EN device incorporates an inbuilt current limiting circuit that satisfies Regulation 534.4.5.1 of BS 7671:2018 + A2:2022 + A3:2024 (18th Edition AMD4) — making it a fast, compliant, and cost-effective way to add surge protection to a BG board without using an additional module position for a backup MCB.

No Backup MCB Required — Inbuilt Current Limiting Circuit

Regulation 534.4.5.1 of BS 7671 18th Edition AMD4 requires SPDs to be protected against overcurrent with respect to short circuit — either by an integrated circuit within the device or a dedicated MCB upstream. The CUA32's CUSPDT21EN device satisfies this requirement through an inbuilt current limiting circuit that melts under high current exposure, releases internal device connections, and creates a failsafe open circuit — triggering the status indicator to alert the user that the SPD requires replacing. This approach means no additional module position is consumed by a backup MCB, preserving board capacity for circuit devices.

40kA Discharge Current — Protects All Connected Circuits

A 40kA nominal discharge current (8/20µs) provides robust protection against transient overvoltages caused by lightning strikes and switching events, diverting surges to earth within less than 25 nanoseconds before they can damage connected loads. The max continuous voltage of 275V and voltage protection level (Up) of 1.3kV confirm the device's protection characteristics. Suitable for TN, TNC-S, and TT earthing systems, covering the range of domestic supply configurations encountered in UK installations.

Pollution Degree 3 Tested for Demanding Environments

Pollution Degree 3 testing confirms the device performs reliably in conditions where conductive pollution or dry non-conductive pollution may become conductive when condensation is present — covering installations in garages, outbuildings, utility rooms, and other locations where ambient temperature variation could generate condensation within the enclosure.
