Home EV Chargers

A home EV charger allows you to charge your electric car overnight from your own electricity supply — giving you full control, lower costs and far more convenience than relying on public charging points or a three-pin plug.

A dedicated home charger can add 20–80 miles of range per hour, and charging overnight on a cheap tariff (such as Intelligent Octopus Go) typically costs just 2–4p per mile — significantly cheaper than public rapid chargers.

All chargers on this page are fully compliant with the Smart Charge Points Regulations 2021, meaning they include smart scheduling, load management and app control as standard.

We stock a wide selection of 7kW and 22kW home EV chargers from leading brands including Zappi, Ohme, Easee, Pod Point,Hypervolt and more. From simple tethered models perfect for everyday use to solar-compatible and untethered units, you’ll find the right charger for your home, driveway or garage.

Home EV Charger FAQs

For most homes the right choice is a 7kW EV charger — it's the maximum output on a standard single-phase 100A domestic supply and will fully charge the majority of electric cars overnight.

The best model depends on your priorities: Zappi (myenergi) if you have solar panels;Ohme or Hypervolt Home 3 Pro if you want Intelligent Octopus Go integration; Pod Point Solo 3S or Easee One for a compact, minimalist unit.

No. Installation must be carried out by a qualified electrician registered with an approved competent-person scheme such as NICEIC or NAPIT. The work falls under BS 7671 18th Edition (Amendment 2:2022) Section 722 and must be notified to building control. Attempting a DIY installation would also void the charger warranty and any OZEV grant eligibility.

Some smart chargers on this page are compatible with Octopus EV tariffs and can be scheduled to charge at off-peak rates.

For the full Intelligent Octopus Go experience — where the charger and Octopus communicate directly to find the cheapest slots automatically — you need a validated model. Our Octopus-compatible chargers page lists every unit that's been verified by Octopus Energy.

A 7kW charger uses a standard single-phase 32A circuit — available in virtually all UK homes — and adds approximately 25 miles per hour of charge. A 22kW (three-phase) charger requires a three-phase supply, which is far less common in domestic UK properties. Unless your home already has three-phase (you'll know from your meter and consumer unit), a 7kW unit is almost certainly the right choice.

A tethered charger comes with a fixed cable which is the most convenient option for daily home charging. An untethered (socketed) charger has a Type 2 socket instead, allowing you to use a cable of your choice and ensuring a tidier wall-mount when not in use.

All chargers sold in the UK since June 2022 must be "smart" under the Smart Charge Points Regulations 2021 — meaning they can schedule charging, respond to grid signals and be updated remotely. In practice this means every unit on this page supports off-peak scheduling. For maximum savings, models from Ohme, Zappi (myenergi) and Hypervolt are validated for Octopus Intelligent Go, which can automatically schedule charging to the cheapest grid windows. See our ultimate guide to Octopus Go and Intelligent Octopus Go tariffs.

If you have solar panels, the myenergi Zappi is designed specifically to divert surplus generation to your car before it's exported. Several Hypervolt and Indra models also support solar self-consumption modes. Browse our solar-compatible EV chargers for all models.

Homeowners with a private driveway are not currently eligible for the OZEV EV Chargepoint Grant (eligibility was removed in April 2022). However, renters, flat owners and landlords can still claim up to £500 per socket (increased from £350 on 1 April 2026) through the EV Chargepoint Grant. If you're purchasing on behalf of a renter or as a landlord (up to 200 sockets per year), all OZEV-approved units on this page qualify.
