EV Charger Pedestals

An EV charger pedestal or mounting post allows a charger to be installed as a free-standing unit — essential for open car parks, driveways and any bay where there's no suitable wall close enough to mount the charger directly. Rather than running conduit across a car park or compromising on bay position, a ground-mounted pedestal brings the charge point to exactly where it needs to be.

EV Charger Pedestal FAQs

An EV charger pedestal is a free-standing mounting post that allows a charger to be installed without a wall — the charger unit is mounted to the top or face of the post, which is fixed to the ground via a root mount set into concrete or a surface mount baseplate bolted to an existing surface.

Pedestals are available in single and dual-charger configurations and in brand-specific and universal designs. They are distinct from all-in-one pedestal charger units, which include the charger itself.

A pedestal is needed when there is no suitable wall within cable reach of the parking bay — common in open surface car parks, driveways with a long run from the house wall, and fleet depot rows.

If you have a solid wall within a reasonable cable run of the bay, a direct wall mount is simpler and usually cheaper. A pedestal becomes the right solution when the wall is too far away, doesn't exist, or the charger needs to serve bays on both sides of a central post.

Most pedestals are brand-specific — designed to accept a particular charger model.

The Easee Base pedestal is for Easee chargers; the Zappi pedestal is for the myenergi Zappi; the Sync Energy pedestal is for Sync Energy chargers. Always check compatibility before purchasing.

A root mount pedestal is set into a concrete foundation for a permanent, highly secure installation — the standard choice for most commercial and domestic installs.

A surface mount pedestal uses a baseplate bolted to an existing concrete or tarmac surface, which is faster to install, easier to relocate, and avoids the need to break up an existing surface. Surface mounting is preferred where permanence isn't required or groundworks aren't practical.

A protection barrier is strongly recommended for any installation in a location where vehicles park close to the charge point — commercial car parks, fleet depots and any site with regular vehicle movement.

Barriers absorb low-speed impact and significantly reduce the risk of damage to the charger and pedestal.
