Hager MCB

Hager MCBs (miniature circuit breakers) provide reliable protection against overloads and short circuits, installed within consumer units to automatically disconnect power when a fault is detected. Available from 6A to 63A, with Type B tripping characteristics for standard domestic and light commercial installations.

  • Trusted Hager quality – Reliable performance for professional installations

Type B and Type C MCBs differ in how quickly they trip when exposed to higher currents.

Type B MCBs trip at lower fault currents (typically 3–5 times the rated current) and are commonly used in standard domestic circuits such as lighting and socket outlets.

Type C MCBs trip at higher fault currents (typically 5–10 times the rated current) and are suited to circuits with higher inrush currents, such as motors, air conditioning units or commercial equipment.

Choosing the correct type ensures reliable operation without unnecessary tripping.

The correct amp rating depends on the circuit design, cable size and intended load. Common examples include:

  • 6A – lighting circuits
  • 16A or 20A – smaller radial circuits or dedicated appliances
  • 32A – socket outlets or ring circuits

It’s important to select an MCB that matches the circuit requirements to ensure safe and compliant operation. Always follow relevant wiring regulations and consult a qualified electrician if needed.

No. MCBs (miniature circuit breakers) are designed to protect against overloads and short circuits only. They help safeguard wiring and equipment by disconnecting the supply when excessive current is detected.

However, MCBs do not detect earth leakage faults, which are the primary cause of electric shock risk. This means they do not provide direct protection for people.

To protect against electric shock, an RCD or RCBO is required. In many modern installations, RCBOs are used instead of MCBs, as they combine overload, short-circuit and earth leakage protection in a single device.

Hager MCBs are specifically designed for use with Hager consumer units and distribution boards to ensure proper fit, reliable performance and compliance with manufacturer specifications.

Using matched components helps maintain safety standards, ensures correct busbar connection and avoids potential installation issues. For best results, Hager devices should always be used within Hager systems.
