Hager RCBO FAQs

A Hager RCBO (Residual Current Breaker with Overload protection) combines the overload and short-circuit protection of an MCB with earth leakage detection, disconnecting the circuit if a potentially dangerous current to earth is detected. Installed within a consumer unit, this gives each individual circuit its own combined protection, rather than relying on a single shared RCD for multiple circuits.

Hager RCBOs are available across the following specifications:

Attribute Options available
Amp ratings 6A–63A
Trip curve B curve, C curve
Residual current type Type A (AC + pulsating DC)
Pole configuration Single pole (SP), 1P+N
Module width 1 module, 2 module
Special application Bidirectional variants for EV charging and solar PV circuits with back-feed current

These describe two different things. Type A or AC refers to the kind of earth leakage fault the RCBO detects – Type A covers AC and pulsating DC faults, common with modern electronics. B or C curve refers to how quickly the device trips under overcurrent conditions, with C curve suited to circuits with higher inrush currents, such as motors. A Hager RCBO's full spec, such as "Type A, C curve, 32A," describes both properties together, not a single classification.

Yes. Hager's bidirectional RCBOs, such as the ADC932R, are designed to operate correctly whether current flows in the conventional direction or in reverse, making them suitable for EV charger circuits, solar PV installations, and any application where back-feed current may be present.

Yes. Hager RCBOs are designed for seamless integration with Hager consumer units, offering straightforward installation and full compliance with current wiring regulations.
