Nuaire Flatmaster: A Comprehensive Guide to the Ultimate PIV unit for flats and basements

What is a Nuaire Flatmaster?

The Nuaire Flatmaster is a high-performance PIV unit specifically designed to ventilate homes without lofts. The unit operates on the principle of positive input ventilation, gently introducing fresh, filtered air into the building while simultaneously extracting stale air. This ensures a constant flow of clean air, improving indoor air quality and reducing the risk of condensation and mold growth, alongside the elimination of pollutants and allergens.

How Does the Nuaire Flatmaster Work?

Air Intake: The Flatmaster draws in fresh air through an external wall vent.
Filtration: The incoming air is filtered to remove up to 95% of dust particles, pollutants and allergens.
Distribution: The filtered air is then distributed throughout the building using a network of ducts.
Exhaust: The system encourages the movement of stale air out of the building, ensuring a constant flow of fresh air.

What are the Benefits of Using a Nuaire Flatmaster PIV Unit?

Healthier Living Environment: Improved indoor air quality can reduce the risk of respiratory problems, allergies and other health issues.
Reduced Moisture and Condensation: By reducing humidity, the Flatmaster can help to prevent mould and mildew growth.
Energy Efficiency: The Flatmaster's low-energy design ensures running costs are minimal.
Compact Design: Unlike traditional PIV units that require loft space for installation, the Flatmaster's slim profile allows for easy installation in homes that do not have loft space.
Quiet Operation: A low-noise design ensures virtually silent operation.

Can the Nuaire Flatmaster help prevent mould growth in my home?

Yes, the Nuaire Flatmaster can be an effective tool in preventing mould growth in your home. By improving indoor air quality and reducing humidity, the Flatmaster can help to create an environment that is less conducive to mould development. Here's how:

Improved Ventilation: The Flatmaster increases airflow, which helps to dry out moisture-prone areas and reduce the likelihood of mould growth.
Reduced Humidity: By introducing fresh, dry air and removing stale, humid air, the Flatmaster can help to lower indoor humidity levels, making it more difficult for mould spores to thrive.
Integral Heating: The Flatmaster2000L and Flatmaster2000R models feature integral heaters, which can provide additional heat to help maintain a comfortable indoor temperature and further reduce the risk of mould growth by preventing condensation in cooler areas.

In addition to PIV units, portable heaters can also play a role in preventing mold growth by providing supplemental heat and helping to dry out any existing damp areas. We've put together a detailed guide on selecting the best portable heater for your needs, so you can quickly dry out any excess damp with a heater that suits your requirements.

Which Flatmaster Model Do I Need?

Nuaire offers three Flatmaster models, each with unique features to suit different ventilation needs:

Flatmaster: This model is ideal for general ventilation and does not have an integral heater.
Flatmaster2000L: This model features an integral heater that warms the incoming air before it enters your home. It draws fresh air from the righthand side and expels heated, filtered air out of the left.
Flatmaster2000R: Similar to the 2000L, this model also has an integral heater. However, it draws fresh air from the lefthand side and expels heated, filtered air out of the right.

When selecting a Flatmaster model, consider the following factors:

Heating Needs: If you require additional heat to warm the incoming air, the Flatmaster 2000L or 2000R models with integral heaters are the best options. If you do not require a heating element the standard Flatmaster model can be installed regardless of the direction of airflow.
Layout of your Space & Installation: The layout of the area of your installation will determine the direction of airflow you require (left or right) which will dictate which model you require.
Ventilation Requirements: The standard Flatmaster is suitable for general ventilation, while the 2000 models offer increased airflow with the addition of a remote boost switch and an integral heater.

What are the Differences Between PIV Units, Extractor Fans and DMEV Fans for Ventialting Flats?

PIV units, extractor fans and DMEV fans are all effective ventilation solutions, they have distinct characteristics. Choosing the right ventilation system for your flat depends on factors such as:

  • Size of your flat
  • Desired level of ventilation
  • Energy efficiency goals
  • Budget

We've put together a blog post to compare the benefits of PIV units and extractor fans, as well as a detailed guide on DMEV fans to help you to find the best ventilation solution for your home.
