22kW EV Chargers

A 22kW charger uses a three-phase 32A supply to deliver up to four times the charge rate of a standard 7kW EV charger — adding around 80–100 miles of range per hour on vehicles that accept three-phase AC. That makes it the right choice for properties with a three-phase supply where faster daytime charging matters: larger homes, new-builds, rural properties and workplace car parks with higher bay turnover.

We offer 22kW EV chargers from popular brands including ZappiPod PointEasee, Sync Energy and more. 22kW chargers are available as tethered and untethered, in a range of cable lengths and finishes and many are compatible with Octopus energy tariffs.

22kW EV Charger FAQs

A 22kW charger requires a three-phase supply — three-phase is less common in UK domestic properties than single-phase, but is standard in most commercial and industrial buildings and increasingly common in larger new-build homes.

If your property is single-phase, a 7kW charger is the appropriate choice.

Only if your vehicle's onboard charger can accept three-phase AC. Most current EVs have a 7kW or 11kW maximum AC charge rate — in those cases, a 22kW charger will deliver at the vehicle's maximum rate, not 22kW.

Check your vehicle's specification before choosing a 22kW unit solely for speed. That said, a 22kW charger is a sound long-term investment if you expect to upgrade vehicles or run a fleet where some models can take advantage of the higher output.

22kW chargers installed at a business premises for staff or fleet use qualify for the Workplace Charging Scheme (WCS) — up to £500 per socket from 1 April 2026, capped at 40 sockets per applicant.

All units on this page are on the OZEV approved list. For the full eligibility criteria and application process, see our Workplace EV Chargers page and Workplace Charging Scheme guide.

Both use a three-phase supply, but at different current ratings: 11kW draws 16A per phase; 22kW draws 32A per phase.

Most current EVs accept a maximum of 11kW AC via their onboard charger, so for the majority of vehicles in use today the practical difference in charge speed is zero — both will deliver at the vehicle's maximum rate. The case for 22kW over 11kW is primarily future-proofing: as more vehicles with higher onboard charge rates reach the market, a 22kW unit will be ready to deliver the full benefit without hardware replacement.
